CARE Meeting
Description
You're Invited to Join LMSD's Committee to Address Race in Education (CARE)
All members of the Lower Merion School District community - students, parents and guardians, staff and residents - are invited to join LMSD's Committee to Address Race in Education (CARE).
LMSD recognizes the value and necessity of engaging all community members in our efforts to provide a high-quality education to all students. CARE was formed in 1997 in order to forge school-community partnerships and opportunities to work collaboratively toward this goal.
That is why CARE will focus on these priority topics for the upcoming year:
* The Essential K-2 Journey : Exploring early literacy and numeracy pathways (for example, pilot family reading circles, parent workshops on phonics instruction).
* Empowering Parents, Thriving Kids : Strengthening family engagement (for example, parent academies on navigating school systems, translation/interpretation supports).
* Bridging the Gap: Collaboration, Equity, and Policy Review : Reviewing policies through an equity lens (for example, discipline practices, access to advanced coursework).
* Beyond Limits: Special Education: Supporting equity in special education (for example, resource navigation nights, supporting community buddy system).
The first CARE meeting for this year will be held on October 29, 2025, from 4:00-5:30 p.m. in the Lower Merion High School library. Future meetings will be held quarterly, with the next meetings tentatively set for January and April.
